There is no one right texture
A surface that feels intense or uncomfortable to one person may feel comfortable, interesting or satisfying to another.
Inclusion Promise
Every child moves, plays and experiences the world differently.
MEEKA tools are created to make sensory and movement opportunities more accessible for children across different needs and abilities.
Made for tactile noticing
Texture can be part of movement without becoming a big activity. A foot may rub against the floor, fingers may search along a surface, or the body may simply notice when something feels different.
MEEKA Sensory Spectrum Mats bring six tactile surfaces into everyday spaces. Place them beneath the feet, along a movement path or within a support space to create simple opportunities to step, press, trace and explore texture.
Step on it. Press into it. Trace it. Notice what feels different.
Six textures, six different possibilities
A surface that feels intense or uncomfortable to one person may feel comfortable, interesting or satisfying to another.
Notice which textures the body moves towards and which it moves away from. Choose the mats that make sense for that person and moment.
A texture that feels welcome in one environment may feel different in another. Move, swap and revisit the mats as needs and spaces change.
Start with what you notice
Explore a texture the user actively seeks, presses into or returns to.
Try a texture that feels more comfortable or less intense for that person.
Place a chosen mat beneath the feet where tactile input is already being sought.
Move selected mats between learning, support and home spaces as the context changes.
Built for tactile choice
Six tactile surfaces that can come together or move apart as the space and person change.
Different surface patterns and heights create six tactile experiences to notice and explore.
Join the mats to create a tactile pathway, or separate selected textures and place them where they make sense.
Compact enough to place beneath feet, beside a desk or within movement and support spaces.
Soft, flexible silicone with a non slip backing creates a durable surface for everyday tactile exploration.
Good to know
Each mat features a different surface texture and height variation, with a non slip backing for use on suitable floor surfaces.
Start by noticing which textures the user approaches, presses into, returns to or chooses to avoid. The same mat may feel different to different people.
Connect selected mats to create a tactile pathway, or separate individual textures and place them beneath feet, beside a desk or within a learning or support space.
You do not need to use all six mats at once. Choose, move and revisit textures as the user, environment and moment change.
Wipe clean as needed and allow the mats to dry completely before reconnecting, stacking or returning them to use.
Place the mats on a stable surface and check that they are sitting securely before stepping or moving across them.
Supervision should reflect the user's age, ability, balance and environment.
Check the mats and connection edges regularly. Discontinue use if any mat is torn, damaged or no longer sits securely.
